WATCH: Bear in Fresno neighborhood escapes wildlife officials

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A bear seen on security video roaming a northwest Fresno neighborhood on Thursday has escaped the state officials sent out to capture it, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed.

Footage sent to YourCentralValley.com shows the bear roaming the neighborhood, running through the streets, walking across residential driveways, and avoiding cars in the road.

The footage, which can be seen in the video player above, matches calls made to the Fresno Police Department.

Police said the sightings were reported in the 7200 block of North Ila, near West and Minarets avenues. Officers said the first call came in around 5:50 a.m. on Thursday. An officer responded to the area but was unable to locate the bear.

Police confirmed that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife sent a team to the neighborhood.

In a statement, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife reports its staff was unable to locate the bear and believes it has left the residential area after the last sighting in the area of West and Alluvial avenues…
