2 dead after fire at Downtown Fresno construction site

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Two people were found dead after a fire at a construction site in Downtown Fresno on Monday morning, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Fire officials said crews responded around 8:20 a.m. Monday, for a smoke investigation near the H Street and Fresno Street bridge construction area. Crews say smoke was seen coming from a vault within the bridge.

Officials say people were seen going in and out of the vault before crews arrived. Construction workers were also seen in the area alongside firefighters at the scene.

Urban search and rescue teams, along with HAZMAT crews, entered the vault to search for anyone inside and extinguish the fire.
