Allen Burnett did theater in high school, but at 67, he’d never performed on stage for his adult kids. Until now.

Allen Burnett grew up loving the Dallas Cowboys, Texas barbecue and the feeling of people watching him on stage. A natural ham, he calls himself.

He wasn’t – and still isn’t, by his admission – a leading man. In “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story,” now at Roger Rocka’s Music Hall, he has maybe 20 lines as a minor character.

But there was nothing minor about the way life crashed in on Burnett in 2010. His wife, Lisa died from cancer, leaving him with four children, ages 9 to 17. He pulled himself together, raised the kids and kept teaching students with special needs…
