Denton Juneteenth organization hosts parade and festivities for annual celebration

Parade attendees watched as waves of decorated antique cars, enthusiastic marchers and the flashing lights of service vehicles processioned through Denton.

This was all part of the Denton Juneteenth organization’s annual parade through the city, which included a week-long celebration of the day the final slaves in Texas were emancipated. Other activities throughout the week included a story time at Emily Fowler library, a poetry slam and art exhibition at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center and more.

“My favorite part of the event is this culmination of meeting different people here in the neighborhood, or beyond, and just kind of catching up,” said Gerard Hudspeth, Denton’s mayor at the time. “[…] It’s really a unique community event and opportunity to see our neighbors and visit with them.”…
