TEXAS GRAND JURY INDICTS DRIVER SIX MONTHS AFTER KILLING CYCLISTS SCOTT MAGES AND ANDRE KOCHER

Six months after a truck driver struck and killed two members of the Frisco Triathlon Club during a group training ride north of Dallas, the case is moving toward trial. A Denton County grand jury has indicted 23-year-old Eliseo Mauala on two counts of collision involving death, both second-degree felonies. Arrest warrants were issued on Monday 29 June at 10:00 a.m., and Pilot Point police took Mauala into custody at his home at 10:50 a.m. before booking him into the Denton County Jail. He was released 1 July after posting two $25,000 bonds.

The charges stem from the Saturday 20 December 2025 crash on FM-455 East, just east of Fritcher Road in Pilot Point. At 08:17 a.m., police received multiple emergency calls reporting a vehicle-bicycle collision involving serious injuries. Officers arrived to find Scott Mages, 55, and Andre Kocher, 60, unresponsive with life-threatening injuries. One was airlifted to Medical City Plano, while the other was transported by ambulance to Methodist Celina Medical Center. Both later died from their injuries.

As Gran Fondo Daily News reported in February, a Texas Department of Transportation crash report obtained by FOX 4 News Dallas stated that Mauala was speeding, not carrying a valid drivers license and refused alcohol and drug testing at the scene.
