New judge appointed to hear Karmelo Anthony’s post-trial recusal motion to decide if Judge Roach stays or not

DALLAS — New court documents obtained by WFAA show a new judge has been assigned to oversee the latest proceedings in the murder case of Karmelo Anthony, the former high school student convicted of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf.

According to the newly filed court records, a state judge signed an order on July 14, assigning Senior Judge Sid L. Harle of the 226th District Court to preside over the defense’s motion to recuse Collin County Judge John Roach. The assignment was effective immediately and authorizes Harle to handle all matters related to the recusal request, the filing read.

In a Wednesday statement to WFAA, Bill Wirskye with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office defended that his team handled the “trial ethically and in full compliance.”…
