DALLAS (KDAF) — McKinney has been named the best city for renters in America for the second consecutive year, according to RentCafe’s 2026 Best Cities for Renters report. Dallas ranked 56th on the list, failing to crack the top 50.
The annual report evaluated 150 U.S. cities across 20 metrics grouped into three main categories: cost of living and housing, local economy and quality of life. The study highlights significant differences in apartment size, new inventory and location quality between the two North Texas cities, located 30 miles apart.
In McKinney, the cost of living sits 2.9% below the national average. Apartments in the city average 983 square feet, with high-end units making up nearly 85% of all rentals. Additionally, 65% of rental properties are situated in prime locations, providing easy access to everyday essentials, green spaces and amenities.
