McKinney man accused of murdering his 9-year-old son last year dies following suicide attempt

A McKinney man accused of murdering his 9-year-old son last year died while in police custody.

Police say 39-year-old Ponnazhakan Subramanian fatally stabbed his son to death in January of 2023.

Subramanian’s wife told investigators he had been depressed and stated multiple times that “he believed that the three of them should die.” She found their son in the garage following the stabbing.

Police reports say he tried to kill himself before he was arrested and spent time in the hospital recovering before being taken to jail. But jailers say Subramanian attempted suicide by hanging in his jail cell in early December.

He finally died several weeks later in the hospital due to his injuries.

His capital murder trial was set to begin in March.
