Texas school district employees indicted in alleged ‘illegal electioneering’ scheme

DENTON, Texas (CITC) – Two Texas school district employees were indicted Tuesday for their alleged roles in an “illegal electioneering” scheme, according to court records. Denton Independent School District (Denton ISD) employees Jesús and Lindsay Luján are accused of using their district-issued email accounts to encourage co-workers to vote in the state’s Republican primary elections. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Denton ISD in February, claiming it is a criminal offense for a school district employee to spend or authorize the spending of public funds for political advertising.
