A 23-year-old man from Texas has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in the distribution of fentanyl, a potent opioid that has claimed the lives of millions across the nation. In a federal courtroom, Rhett Barclay was sentenced to 275 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute this lethal substance, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas. U.S. Attorney Leigha Simonton emphasized the gravity of the defendant’s actions, stating, “This defendant is implicated in multiple deaths, including the tragic demise of his unborn child”.
