Abbott declares Venezuelan gang a ‘foreign terrorist organization’

A gang working out of Venezuela has become a “growing threat” in Texas and the rest of the country, Gov. Greg Abbott says. At a press conference in Houston on Monday, Abbott signed a proclamation declaring Tren de Aragua a “foreign terrorist organization.”

Abbott and McCraw said Venezuela does not give the U.S. access to its database of known gang members. If the U.S. does try to deport someone, they said Venezuela may refuse to take the person back.

“This is a nonpartisan, bipartisan issue,” Abbott said.
