The Dallas Cowboys offense under Mike McCarthy this season hasn’t been smooth, from penalties to turnovers and miscommunication, it’s all been inconsistent.
An offense that was the NFL’s best just a year ago, Dallas’ attack is now struggling to break into the middle of the pack, and one thing that is holding them back, among a host of other things, is Dak Prescott’s interceptions.
Last year, Dak had just nine, along with 36 passing touchdowns, but in seven games this season, he’s already up to eight .
Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer says the team trusts Dak to reel in his interceptions but stresses that they aren’t all on him.
“You can’t dwell on them, you got to go play the game,” Schottenheimer said. “We trust Dak, [he’s] going to make way more good decisions than bad decisions, the interceptions again, they’re not all just him. …
“Dak will get out of this and we’ll get out of this. We have to do that to be as good as we can be.”
Schotty is right; some interceptions aren’t on Prescott, but as we saw in the 2022 season in which he threw 15 in 12 games to lead the league despite over half of them bouncing off a receiver’s hands and into the grateful lap of a defender, people don’t care who’s fault it is. They lay the blame on Dak – rightly or wrongly.
