The robber pulled one over on the ole’ FBI
There have been numerous crimes that have left the FBI scratching their heads, but Cowboy Boy blew their minds. How could a middle-aged cowboy pull off so many flawless bank robberies and continue to elude law enforcement?
1991
In May 1991, a man entered the American Federal Bank in Irving, TX. He handed the bank teller a note that read, “This is a bank robbery. Give me your money. No marked bills or dye packs.”
The perpetrator appeared to be an aging white man, about 5’10, with grey hair and a beard, a slight beer-belly, and always wore a 10-gallon cowboy hat during the commission of his crimes. He sported a black leather jacket, gloves and large aviator sunglasses.
He was always very calm, and silent, but polite. He never even brought a weapon. Avoiding cameras, he would hand the bank teller a note, instructing her to give him the money, and leave as composed as he arrived.
It was obvious to FBI special agent Steve Powell that the robber was a professional. He was dubbed Cowboy Bob.
