Hector Omar Segura-Lara, 36, and Jose Antonio Ortega-Silva, 33, both of Dallas, have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana announced today.
Segura-Lara was sentenced to 108 months in prison, while Ortega-Silva received a 37-month sentence after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine, the department said.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, troopers stopped a Chrysler 200 occupied by Segura-Lara and Ortega-Silva.
The vehicle’s occupants reportedly provided conflicting accounts about their travel plans, prompting troopers to conduct a consensual search of the car.
During the search, law enforcement discovered four kilograms of cocaine concealed in an additional car battery located under the hood, the department said.
Both Segura-Lara and Ortega-Silva admitted they were driving to Virginia to deliver the drugs, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
