Jury selection gets underway Monday in the trial of Zul Mohamed, a former Carrollton mayoral candidate accused of voter fraud during the 2020 election.
Mohamed faces more than 100 counts related to allegations of illegally obtaining and possessing mail-in ballots. According to investigators, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office and state officials launched an inquiry after residents at a Lewisville nursing home reported receiving mail-in ballots they had not requested.
Authorities allege Mohamed used a fake driver’s license and a counterfeit University of North Texas ID to request more than 80 mail-in ballots. Investigators say they discovered the ballots during a search of his home.
If convicted, Mohamed could face up to 20 years in prison.
