Plano (KDAF) — During the holiday season, many people feel compelled to give back in a meaningful way. One way to do that is to help close the hunger gap by either donating or volunteering.
We visited the North Texas Food Bank campus in Plano to learn more about ways to get involved.
Texas now leads the nation in terms of the number of people who face hunger, and the DFW ranks third in terms of the number of people experiencing food insecurity. 1.2 million people in the DFW area face hunger regularly, said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank.
She outlined four easy ways the community can get involved to ensure no neighbor goes hungry.
- Volunteer: Volunteer as an individual or group with the North Texas Food Bank or one of about 500 feeding partners across North Texas.
- Donate Money: For every $1 the North Texas Food Bank receives, the food bank can provide three nutritious meals for those in need.
- Donate Food: help provide meals to our neighbors facing hunger by donating food or by hosting a canned or virtual food drive through your community organizations or businesses.
