A recent study is raising alarm bells with findings that put several Arizona highways at the top of the list for the most dangerous U.S. roads when it comes to speeding and fatal crashes. As reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, Truckinfo.net has identified five Arizona highways among the 10 most perilous nationwide, with Interstate 10 in Maricopa County leading the grim tally with 17 fatalities.
Additional data reveals that Maricopa County is the nation’s second worst for speeding-related fatalities, with 232 deaths, trailing only Los Angeles County’s 322. This may to partially explain why the Interstate 10 itself is listed three different times for separate sections. Such tragic numbers seem to reaffirm the grim reality that’s unfolding on these stretches of pavement, where life often unceremoniously terminates in a collision. The study included, but didn’t limit itself to, other notorious roadways like US-60, Interstate 40, and Interstate 17 in Arizona.
Meanwhile, North Texas isn’t spared from this deadly trend. A WFAA article highlights similar concerns, noting that the I-30 in Dallas County ranks amongst the top five most dangerous roads nationwide for speeding. The Lone Star State led with a staggering 1,371 speeding-related deaths in 2022.
