Deep in the heart of Grapevine, Texas, a living piece of history stands tall—a majestic post oak that has witnessed the evolution of the Lone Star State for nearly 200 years. On March 1, 2025, the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Grapevine Historical Society will host a dedication ceremony in honor of the Grapevine Witness Tree, a landmark that has stood since the 1840s and played a pivotal role in the city’s founding.
The dedication will coincide with Texas Independence Day, bringing together local historians, city leaders, and descendants of early settlers to celebrate the significance of this tree, which marks the location where early surveyors first mapped out the town of Grapevine.
