Severe thunderstorms, hail expected in parts of Texas this week. Here’s when.

The calendar has flipped to March, and Mother Nature is not wasting any time. Multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of Texas each of the next three days, capable of large hail, damaging winds and even a tornado or two.

The largest severe weather threat will mainly sit in parts of North and East Texas. Areas in the southern half of the state, such as San Antonio, are less likely to experience severe weather, but there’s still a chance of a few storms, along with very strong winds. Here’s a look at what you can expect.

Sunday’s forecast

The San Antonio area will see pleasant weather on Sunday, as temperatures start in the mid-50s under mostly cloudy skies . As we progress into the afternoon, skies will become partly to mostly sunny, and temperatures will rise into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Wind speeds will pick up as well, coming in from the south at around 15 to 20 mph from the late afternoon through the evening. Some gusts could reach 25 to 30 mph at times. These southerly winds will send higher moisture levels into the state, setting the stage for severe storms.

Panhandle severe weather: On Sunday afternoon and evening, parts of the eastern Texas Panhandle, as well as western Oklahoma, will have a chance of strong thunderstorms. The main threat of storms will come between 1 and 7 p.m.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the eastern Panhandle as a level 2 of 5 risk of severe storms, meaning that a few cells could produce damaging wind and hail, and even an isolated tornado possible.

San Antonio will experience very high atmospheric moisture levels on Monday, so you can expect a potential foggy morning , overcast skies, and a chance of light mist or drizzle through parts of the day. Temps will be cooler, topping out in the low to mid-70s…
