Dallas, Texas –Severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds and large hail are expected to sweep across North and Central Texas Saturday afternoon and evening, prompting a watch that includes the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and 36 surrounding counties through 10 p.m.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 278 was issued at 2:30 p.m. CDT and affects a wide swath of Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, McLennan, and Hill counties. The main hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to 1.5 inches, and isolated lightning strikes that could disrupt power or spark fires.
Cities such as Waco, Plano, and Sherman may see rapidly intensifying cells through the early evening.
