In the heart of downtown Dallas sits the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. If you venture onto the seventh floor into a darkened back room, you’ll find a piece of what July Fourth is all about: an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.
“There were about 200 copies made at the time, but all that remains is about 22,” Dallas Director of Libraries Manya Shorr said. “We have one of them on the seventh floor of the downtown Dallas Central Library.”
Out of those limited number of copies, Dallas has the only one west of the Mississippi and one of only a few in good condition…
