Dallas Holiday Parade may lose its giant inflatables as city costs balloon

DALLAS — The Dallas Holiday Parade may not have giant inflatable nutcrackers, gingerbread people, or snowmen this year, as organizers say the price the city charges to make room for the big balloons has blown up in recent years.

Alongside dancers and marching bands, the annual parade typically boasts more than two dozen balloons — and organizers pay the city to swing overhead traffic signals aside to allow them to pass through downtown streets.

Organizer Jeffrey Giles said he paid $20,000 to the city last year — five times more than the year before. He said he’s been told the cost this year could increase again…
