Caden Zeltner, a senior at Wylie High School, became the first high school student to win the Best in Show award in the State Fair of Texas Chocolate Baking Competition. Zeltner’s flourless chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce was selected by the judges as the top entry. The annual competition usually features adult chefs and hobby bakers from across Texas. This year, Zeltner was recognized among these experienced participants and received the highest honor for his school district.
Chef Emily Guynes, Zeltner’s culinary arts teacher, said she was proud of his achievement. Zeltner began baking at age five and credits the Wylie High School Culinary Program and Chef Guynes for supporting his development. Although he does not plan to pursue a culinary career, Zeltner intends to start a family, serve a two-year religious mission, and become a firefighter.
