Carrollton first responders honored after life-saving effort

When Lewisville resident Michael Schroeder suddenly went into cardiac arrest while driving home on Sept. 11, a quick-thinking nurse, fast-acting Carrollton first responders and a prepared hospital team helped save his life.

After Schroeder left his office on Thursday, Sept. 11, he left not knowing his life would take an unexpected turn. While driving home from downtown Plano to Lewisville, he made it to Carrollton before blacking out and colliding with two vehicles.

Local nurse Ashley James witnessed the accident, immediately rushing to begin CPR chest compressions on Schroeder. Within minutes, Carrollton Fire and EMS arrived to take over. First responders delivered four shocks to the heart to restore circulation…
