Frisco’s $12.8 Million Animal Facility Moves Forward Amid Resident Concerns

A new animal services facility in Frisco took a step forward this week, but not without contention. On Nov. 4, the Frisco City Council narrowly approved a letter of intent (LOI) for the project by a 4-3 vote, with council members Burt Thakur, Jared Elad and Brian Livingston opposing the measure.

The proposal, first introduced during an October work session, outlines plans for an 18,987-square-foot, two-story animal facility to be located near the intersection of PGA Parkway and Executive Drive. The city-owned 4.05-acre site sits near the future Balcones Recycling facility and the North Texas Municipal Water District’s solid waste transfer station.

What’s Planned

The proposed design features separate areas for different operations. The first floor would include daycare, boarding, play yard, holding kennels and a full-service veterinary clinic. The second floor would house cats and exotic animals, staff offices, a 24-hour care dorm and a 1,792-square-foot community training room.

Frisco Animal Services, which operates under the city’s police department, would continue to manage animal control but gain new support through short-term holding, quarantine space, veterinary care for police dogs and adoption transfers.
