Wylie Junior High Scare As 12-Year-Old Allegedly Lunges For Officer’s Gun

A routine trip to the administrator’s office at Frank McMillan Junior High turned into a serious police matter yesterday, when a 12-year-old student was taken into custody after allegedly making verbal threats toward a school administrator and lunging several times at a school resource officer’s holstered gun, officials said. No students were in the room when it happened, and no one was hurt.

According to a post by the Wylie Police Department on Facebook, the school resource officer was called to an administrator’s office around 2 p.m. Thursday to check out a reported threat. Police said the student continued making verbal threats and then “lunged” multiple times toward the officer’s holstered weapon before being restrained and taken into custody. The department said it will keep working with Wylie ISD to investigate both direct and perceived threats to district campuses and staff.

Charges And Immediate Response

The Dallas Morning News reports the student faces charges of terroristic threat, causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury, and taking or attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer, according to a statement from Detective Alexandra Waters. McMillan Principal Jason Ervin told parents the student had been sent to the administrator’s office after misbehaving and “will not be back on campus,” adding that discipline will follow the Wylie ISD Student Code of Conduct.

Local Reporting And Contacts

Local outlet Wylie News republished the police department’s release and noted the student is 12 years old. Because he is a minor, police are withholding his name. That piece also includes contact information for Detective Alexandra Waters at 214-317-3267 and an email address for media inquiries.
