Whether you’re ordering an Italian beef at one of Anthony Bourdain’s favorite Chicago restaurants or taking a bite out of Bobby Flay’s favorite New York slice, foodies know that celebrity chefs can help put under-the-radar eateries on the map. Add this one to the list: Twisted Root Burger Co. has gone from a hole-in-the-wall Dallas burger joint featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” back in 2009 to one of Texas’s coolest restaurants with locations around the state.
Twisted Root Burger Co. was memorably featured in the season 6 episode “A Burger, a Bowl and a Slice,” which was all about burgers, chili, and pizza. At that point, Twisted Root was relatively new: The original location was opened in Deep Ellum, Dallas, in 2006 by chefs Jason Boso and Quincy Hart. During his visit, Fieri loved the Western Burger with pepper jack, bacon, onion strings, and the “kicker”: jalapeƱos. He also sampled a venison and bison burger (no longer on the menu) and a side of fried pickles.
What to order at Twisted Root
Fieri’s appearance helped Twisted Root become more popular, and today, the burger joint operates 13 locations in different Texas cities. The Twisted Root website explains their growth like this: “Then Guy Fieri rolled in (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, 2009), and the rest is burger history. Today, Twisted Root is still all about vibrant flavors, fresh ingredients, and not taking ourselves too seriously. We’ve grown a lot, but we’ve never lost our roots.”
Along with their juicy burgers and tasty sides, Twisted Root is known for its quirky decor and laid-back atmosphere. The Deep Ellum location features a neon-yellow unicorn head and retro diner signs (which suit the quirky neighborhood, known for its entertainment district, deep history of diversity, and vibrant shopping scene)…
