A North Texas man already tied to a 2021 Lake Dallas killing is now back behind bars, this time in Collin County, on a new murder charge stacked with several other felonies. The arrest marks the latest twist in a case that has already sparked courtroom fights over evidence and an appellate court reversal.
Booked In Collin County
Jail and court records show that Brandon Kingsley Johnson, 44, was booked into the Collin County Detention Center last Friday, on a first-degree felony murder charge. He is also facing additional counts that include aggravated robbery, assault of a peace officer or judge, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and evading arrest with a vehicle, according to The Dallas Express.
The county’s online roster showed bond figures attached to some of Johnson’s bookings but did not list specific bond amounts for the murder and aggravated robbery counts. A separate collateral entry reflected $105,000, though it was not linked to a particular offense description. Members of the public can search bookings and related information through the inmate lookup maintained by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.
Background: 2021 Lake Dallas Shooting
Johnson had already been indicted in Denton County in connection with the February 6, 2021 shooting death of 38-year-old Michael Darrough at a Lake Dallas apartment complex. In a memorandum opinion describing video evidence, the Second Court of Appeals wrote, “The left rear passenger (later identified as Brandon Kingsley Johnson) can be seen concealing a handgun in his waistband,” before reversing a trial judge’s dismissal of the case and sending it back for further proceedings. The opinion is available on Justia.

Docket entries reflect that warrants were executed after a January 5, 2026 failure to appear and that bond amounts were later adjusted, according to The Dallas Express…
