Allen council OKs police HQ security, library fee cuts

The Allen City Council approved security upgrades for a new police headquarters, adopted changes to library fees and raised a McDermott Drive speed limit during its Feb. 10 meeting.

The council authorized a $1.6 million amendment to a CORE Construction contract for security and access controls at the new Allen Police Department headquarters. The project includes a new three-story police department adjacent to City Hall, multiple new driveways and a new parking garage.

The amendment will provide badge readers, security cameras, intercom systems, door-locking components, software programming and equipment for the detention facility. The project now has a total cost of $97.1 million, with most funding coming from voter-approved bond funds…
