Hot dogs and cocktails are about to get a new home on the downtown McKinney square, as Shorty’s, a coneys-and-cocktails bar from Bryan and Angela McVay, readies a March 16 opening at 109 N. Kentucky Street, according to Shorty’s. The compact stand-and-seat spot will focus on hot dogs, smash burgers and sandwiches alongside cocktails, wine and beer.
Co-owner Bryan McVay said he wants the place to be as much about local pride as late-night snacks. He hopes to celebrate and share McKinney’s history, he told Community Impact, and the couple plans to line the walls with early photographs and videos of the square. That mix of memorabilia and quick comfort food is meant to make Shorty’s work as both a daytime grab-and-go stop and an evening cocktail bar.
