H-E-B might be the most beloved grocery store in Texas, but plenty of companies are trying to take on the San Antonio giant. Among those companies is Trader Joe’s, which is now investing in its pre-existing stores to go alongside its multimillion-dollar developments.
McKinney, a town north of Dallas in the DFW Metroplex, has been one of the fastest-growing towns in the state in recent years, earning praise as a renter city and being named one of the hottest ZIP codes in America. It’s been almost 12 years since Trader Joe’s first opened in the North Texas town and now the shop is expected to receive a $2.5 million upgrade, according to state filings.
A recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) shows the Trader Joe’s at 2851 Craig Drive in McKinney is set to receive new refrigeration and freezer cases, changing refrigeration from gas to CO2, a new bridge, new checkstands and new CO2 equipment in the electric room.
