McKinney’s Finch Park Named One of the Best in Texas

Finch Park was recently named a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society, one of the highest honors awarded to a park in Texas. The designation recognizes parks that hold special prominence within their communities and across the state.

The award was presented during the TRAPS Annual Institute and Expo held Feb. 10–13 in Corpus Christi.

A Park With Deep Roots In McKinney

Finch Park, located at 301 Standifer St, McKinney is more than a neighborhood gathering place. It is a foundational part of McKinney’s story.

Named after Henry A. Finch, who served as McKinney’s mayor from 1913 to 1921, the park was first owned by the city of McKinney. Over the decades, it has evolved alongside the community, serving as home to the historic Collin McKinney Cabin, a zoo, an outdoor swimming pool, decorative fountains and even a tourist camp…
