Bobby Gentry Muffler and Brakes marks 45 years of keeping Denton rolling

From drag racing and classic cars to newer, computer-based vehicles, Bobby Gentry has seen an evolution in the automotive industry that has changed the way cars are serviced and cared for today. He knows first-hand about those changes and ensures that his customers at Bobby Gentry Muffler and Brakes always get the service they need and deserve.

Gentry — no, not that Bobbie Gentry who sang “Ode to Billy Joe” decades ago! — took his love of cars as a teen and applied it to his business, which celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.

Gentry’s motto: Silence the noise. Secure the ride.

When Gentry opened his shop in 1981, he knew he was in love with cars. After high school, he went to college and decided his future would be working with those cars. As many parents have done, Gentry’s dad said he would have to get a job if he didn’t go to college, so that’s what he did. His first full-time job was working for his dad’s friend, who owned a muffler shop – and a Pro Stock race car.

“That’s when I got involved in drag racing. I also ended up managing the shop and decided to open my own. It made sense: if I could do all the work and make all the [business] connections, why not open up my own shop,” said Gentry. At age 22, that’s exactly what he did…
