McKinney ISD is increasing pay for teachers and staff ahead of the 2026–2027 school year, approving a new compensation package aimed at strengthening recruitment and retention across the district.
The plan, approved at the district’s April board meeting, includes higher starting salaries, expanded stipends and additional benefits, reflecting a broader effort to remain competitive as districts across North Texas continue to adjust compensation strategies.
Higher Starting Salaries And Across-The-Board Increases
Under the new plan, first-year teachers will see a starting salary of $64,700, with total compensation reaching approximately $68,372 when benefits are included. Teachers with a master’s degree will start at $66,200. In addition, all staff will receive a 3.5% pay increase based on their salary midpoint.
The move comes as other districts in the region are also increasing teacher pay as part of long-term staffing strategies, including similar adjustments seen in nearby districts’ 2026–2027 budget planning.
Expanded Stipends And Incentives
The district is also increasing stipends in several key areas:
- Special Education/Resource: $5,000
- Special Education/Specialized Programs: $8,000
- Bilingual: $5,000
- Master’s Degree: $1,500
- Doctorate: $1,500
These additions are designed to support specialized roles and encourage continued professional development.
