A packed and emotional Frisco City Council meeting Tuesday night devolved into hours of tense public debate as residents sounded off on a proposed mosque project with some comments drawing applause, boos and accusations of anti-Muslim rhetoric.
The meeting, which stretched past midnight, centered around the Islamic Center of Quad Cities, a proposed mosque near Lebanon Road and Batsford Drive. But while city officials repeatedly stressed the project had already cleared zoning requirements years ago, many speakers used public comment to voice broader fears about religion, growth and the future of the community.
