Summerfield woman allegedly called boyfriend from jail after attack that sent him to hospital

A Summerfield woman was arrested on a warrant Sunday for contacting her boyfriend against a judge’s orders while in jail.

Mariah Disyari Mata, 29, was arrested on May 9 for allegedly hitting her boyfriend of five years in the head with a brick. When law enforcement spoke to him, he had a substantial amount of blood on his arm, chest and left side of his face, all from a laceration on the left side of his head. He was ultimately transported to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages for treatment, while she was booked at Marion County Jail.

A judge later set bond conditions at the first appearance, ordering that Mata must not have contact with her boyfriend, according to affidavits from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. However, a check of her call log determined she had called him six times within minutes of her first appearance on May 10, from 9:42 a.m. to 1:57 p.m. Five of these calls came from her own account, and one came from the account of a fellow jail inmate.

In these calls, Mata admitted to striking her boyfriend in the head with a brick and showed no remorse. She instead berated him and blamed him, only showing interest in getting out of jail and seeing her child. She often told her boyfriend that the altercation was his fault, and she showed no concern for his well-being, the affidavits said…
