Marion commissioners waive interest, keep $5,500 civil restitution lien for former inmate trying to buy first home

A local man who has turned his life around will have to pay $5,500 in incarceration fees from nearly a decade ago after Marion County commissioners forgave the interest and maintained the full balance of a civil restitution lien that has been preventing him from purchasing his first home.

During the April 7 meeting of the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, the board voted unanimously to waive $2,779.57 in accrued interest for Briley Garrett Carr, who served time at the Marion County Jail following arrests in 2017 and 2019.
