A Newberry teen was arrested after allegedly helping a 16-year-old girl sneak out of her house and taking her to a park in Lake Panasoffkee.
Deputies responded to an undisclosed Lake Panasoffkee address regarding a missing 16-year-old girl around 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Her parents told dispatchers that she left without permission, and they believed she was with 19-year-old Adam Mohammad Salih.
The parents actively tracked their daughter’s phone to the Lake Panasoffkee Recreation Park, located at 1589 CR 459, Lake Panasoffkee, where a deputy then arrived. He discovered a gray Chevrolet utility vehicle parked at the back of the park on County Road 459. Approaching the vehicle determined that Salih was sitting in the driver’s seat with the daughter beside him, the report said.
During the investigation, the daughter allowed the deputies to review messages between her and Salih over Instagram. She had agreed to sneak out of her residence to meet him, and she updated him on her movements as he came to pick her up.
