West Nile virus infection reported in Alachua County, health department confirms

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Florida Department of Health warned residents that a confirmed case of West Nile Virus has been detected in Alachua County.

Health department officials say a person contracted the mosquito-borne illness locally. They are coordinating with Alachua County, City of Gainesville, City of Alachua, and City of Newberry Mosquito Control.
