This year, Newberry families found themselves choosing between two elementary schools: Oak View K-8 School, run by Alachua County Public Schools, and Newberry Community School, a new charter.
The changes stem from a 2024 decision in which parents and teachers at Newberry Elementary School voted to convert it into a charter. Most parents voted in favor of the charter school, but only half the teachers supported it.
