Gainesville beauty school MTI to provide free services in honor of Black History Month

Students at the McDougle Technical Institute will give back to the Gainesville community by offering free manicures, pedicures and male haircuts throughout February to celebrate Black History Month.

MTI is an accredited private school specializing in vocational training for career preparation.

“I think the beauty industry is where people get an instant gratification and walk out feeling like a whole different person,” said Octavia McDougle, who founded the school and has over 12 years’ experience in higher education and business management. “I’m glad to be in this industry and to have an opportunity to give back to people who may not be able to afford the services. When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good.”

“I see so many people who can benefit from complimentary services,” said April Patterson, director of MTI’s Gainesville campus. “We want to help them and celebrate them. This teaches students to help them take care of their customers.”
