ORLANDO — First, Vernell Brown III said Saturday that he was 100 percent committed to the Gators.
Then the Jones five-star senior wide receiver quickly corrected himself.
“I’m 1,000 percent locked in,” Brown said minutes after Jones’ 31-21 win against rival Edgewater at Camping World Stadium.
Brown, a Gators legacy commit and the No. 8 player on the USA Today Florida Network top 100, had a couple big catches in the Tigers win, including a 30-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone in the third quarter. Despite being double covered, Jones quarterback Dereon Coleman lofted the throw to Brown, who came down with the ball and the score.
“Our game plan was to take shots at their corners all week,” Brown said. “We took a shot, and I made it happen.”
Brown committed to the Gators in July. He said he enjoyed seeing Florida true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway’s record-setting performance against Samford in Week 2.
“To see DJ do what he did in that game shows that the future is bright,” Brown said.
