Crash kills one, injuries another, two arrested for unrelated charges

Law enforcement officials said a two-vehicle crash in southwest Marion County claimed the life of one person, seriously injured another, and two people arrested on unrelated charges after the wreck on Saturday.

Where was the crash? At the intersection of County Road 484 and Southwest 110th Avenue.

Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol, with Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisting.

What time was the crash? Spokesman James Lucas from the Marion County Fire Rescue said the call was assigned at 12:42 p.m. Lucas said fire officials arrived at 12:44 p.m. and the victim was pronounced deceased at 12:46 p.m.

How did the crash happen? Troopers said a Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on CR 484. A Mercury Sport Utility Vehicle was heading westbound on the same roadway.

The Toyota driver tried turning left onto SW 110th Avenue. Authorities said the front left of the Toyota struck the left side of the SUV. The SUV veered off the roadway and onto the grassy shoulder. Overturning, a woman in the vehicle was ejected onto the roadway. The other person in the vehicle, a man, was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for treatment. Troopers said the man was listed in critical condition.
