Press release from Gainesville Regional Utilities

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – We have received numerous reports of downed power lines in our service area. Never approach our touch downed power lines. They may still be live and can be deadly. If you see a downed power line, please call 352-334-2871 or 911.

GRU restored power to more than 17,000 customers overnight and currently has about 47,500 customers without power. We will continue to restore power as quickly and safely as possible until all customers are restored. In addition to GRU line crews, we have mutual aid from Lubbock Power & Light and have requested additional mutual aid assistance.

GRU lost power to several wastewater lift stations and is working as quickly as possible to restore service to this vital infrastructure. Customers can help keep systems running smoothly by limiting water use as much as possible.

GRU’s power restoration priorities are:

  • Essential GRU facilities
  • Critical facilities such as hospitals, police and fire stations
  • Areas where we can restore power to the most people at one time
  • Individual homes and businesses
