Fire crews extinguish residential fire, resuscitate dogs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At about 12:30 p.m. this afternoon, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a residential building fire in the 7500 block of SW 47 th Lane, Gainesville.

Upon arrival, units found heavy smoke coming from the roofline of the structure and a frantic homeowner trying to save her pets inside. ACFR E82 made a quick fire attack to knock down the fire while E81 began a primary search. The search found three dogs who were unconscious and required resuscitation by on-scene crews. A fourth dog was missing, along with two cats. The missing dog was found outside the residence, and all four dogs were transported by the owner to a local vet, awake and alert. The two missing cats were located unharmed outside the house a short time later. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was contained to the room of origin, but the structure sustained heavy smoke damage. Thanks to the quick actions of crews on scene, all pets were returned to the homeowner and the fire was quickly extinguished.
