( KLFY ) — Lafayette Utilities System linemen have completed Hurricane Helene’s restoration assistance in Tallahassee and Gainesville, Florida and are heading home, officials said.
LUS Director Jeffrey Stewart said the alliance between LUS and neighboring cities like Tallahassee and Gainesville highlights the culture of cooperation and mutual assistance that defines the public power community.
“Considering the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, LUS did not hesitate to assist our neighboring mutual aid partners who aided us in restoration efforts less than a month ago,” Stewart said.
Immediately after landfall Sept. 26, more than 1.2 million power customers around Florida were reportedly left without service after Helene blasted the Gulf Coast from Southwest Florida to Tampa Bay to the Big Bend.
