Hurricane Milton continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to be a major hurricane when it hits Florida’s west coast on Wednesday. Marion County officials have urged residents to prepare themselves for the storm, which is expected to cut across the Florida peninsula. Three Marion County shelters are opening Tuesday and there will be no school Wednesday or Thursday. Stay tuned here for the latest updates on Monday.

Citizen Information Line is now open
The Marion County Emergency Management Citizen Information Line went live at 8 a.m. Monday. It will be staffed 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The number to call for non-emergency inquiries related to the storm is 352-369-7500. Call 911 for emergencies.
