Billy Napier’s Future at Florida ‘In Flux’ Amid Concern Over $26 Million Buyout

The Florida Gators had their best win of the season last Saturday with their 48-20 drubbing of Kentucky at home, a game that Florida took over in the second quarter and dominated from there. That runs the record of coach Billy Napier’s team to 4-3 going into a much-needed bye week.

When the Gators return, they will face a brutal November slate that starts with No. 2 Georgia at home, followed by No. 5 Texas on the road and No. 8 LSU back in Gainesville. They’ll play at No. 18 Ole Miss before wrapping up with Florida State, which has become a surpise schedule cupcake this season.

While there has been ample disappointment in the job that Napier has done in two years with the Gators, don’t expect him to get the in-season axe. Still, his time at Florida might be running short, as ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel pointed out on the “GameDay Podcast” this week.

“I would still think Billy Napier’s future is in flux,” Pete Thamel said , via On3 . “He could’ve really helped himself by beating Tennessee .”
