Florida Gators coach Billy Napier did not exactly repay the vote of confidence he received this week during Saturday’s blowout loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns.
Two days after the Gators announced that Napier will return for the 2025 season, Florida fell behind 35-0 at halftime and 42-0 early in the third quarter in their loss to Texas. Naturally, Napier’s job status was a topic of conversation during ABC’s broadcast of the game, which resulted in an amazing graphical juxtaposition. The broadcast displayed a quote from sophomore tight end Hayden Hansen, who asserted that Gators players are still “playing hard” for Napier. Unfortunately, they discussed that quote with Florida down 42-0 less than five minutes into the third quarter.
The graphic quickly went viral, with many finding it to be a perfect summation of the situation Florida has found itself in.
Based on the statement Florida put out Thursday , it seems the administration genuinely feels Napier is close to a breakthrough. From the outside, we simply have not seen a great deal of evidence of that. They were outclassed by Texas in every department, and even though Florida did not have quarterback DJ Lagway available, it seems quite unlikely that would have made much of a difference.
