Both drivers killed in two-vehicle crash in NE Marion County

FORT MCCOY —Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash that blocked a portion of County Road 315 for several hours Wednesday night.

Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol.

Where was the crash? 22100 block of Northeast County Road 315 in Fort McCoy. The area is dark with no street lights.

What time was the crash? Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said crews were assigned to the call at 8:36 p.m. and arrived at 8:47 p.m. Rescue personnel pronounced one person deceased at 8:51 p.m. and the second death was called at 8:59 p.m.

What happened? Troopers on scene said a Dodge Journey SUV was southbound on CR 315. A Chrysler Town&Country passenger van was northbound on the same roadway.

FHP officials said for an unknown reason, the Chrysler crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with the Dodge. Both drivers — a man behind the wheel of the Chrysler and a woman driving the Dodge — died at the location, officials said.
